My foodie find this week is one that I stumbled on (literally, I have the scratches on my hands to prove it) while at a job-related training in the Foggy Bottom section of DC. Foggy Bottom Grocery, also known as FoBoGro, is a townhouse-turned convenience store/deli (2140 F Street NW, between 21st and 22nd Streets) that has a sandwich counter accessible by a separate basement entrance. The convenience store upstairs sells basic grocery necessities and coffee. What stood out for me was the amazing beer selection they had, including Allagash, Hoegaarden, and Sierra Nevada.

The steady stream of people going in and coming out of the store lured me in, and I sat down moments later with the Cazenovia, their take on an Italian sub. I feel in love with FoBoGro at first bite.  The crust of the sub roll was crisp, yet the inside was soft and buttery, dense enough to hold the vinaigrette dressing but soft enough to mix with the meats and cheese on the sandwich and not overpower them. The meat was fresh and sliced just thick enough to stand out as the star of the sandwich.  The Provolone was creamy, a little smoky, and blended well with the hot and sweet peppers on the sandwich.

The second sandwich I tried was the Chicken Salad sandwich. On my first visit, four people in front of me ordered this sandwich, so I had to try it. Another hit! The chicken salad was bright from the tarragon, and the sweetness from the cranberries and the crunch from the walnuts really added a different take on traditional chicken salad.  It was served on a homemade Ciabatta that was dense and stood up well to the creaminess of the chicken salad.
